Hupdate’s Raison D’Etre

For years now, the hupdate has been happening in my living room and my car on the way to circus training and rehearsals.
“Have you seen Water on Mars? Well, that is Wes Peden.”
“Oh!”

“Did you see that trailer for Airport? Its hysterical!”  “I love it! But is it circus? Its kind of dance, isn’t it?”

“Gypsy Snider, the one who directed the circus in Pippin? She was in the Pickle Family Circus.”
“Ah!”

And on it goes. In our family we trade information, philosophies, names, history, show critiques and expound on what we love about the circus, forever schooling each other on the topic and bonding as a result. So we asked ourselves, why not bring that mix of news, developments, chatter and links to everyone? Seemed like a plan. Still,  I was writing about circus long before Hupdate existed on the internet. So in case you want to go in to the backlogs, here are some links to my previous reviews and interviews.

Hupdate is the place to go for news about contemporary circus happenings around the globe. It is also the place to read reviews about performances and interviews with artists, directors and others involved in the expanding contemporary circus movement.

Hupdate welcomes guest writers, critics and bloggers. To pitch your idea, contact the editor at kimATkimzynDOTcom

Besides editing Hupdate, I am the editor of American Circus Educators magazine, as well as editor for Third Coast Review, and a former staff writer for Gapers Block, where I write about arts and culture with a focus on circus and theate
